How to pay your registration fees

Registration as a data controller is subject to payment of a prescribed fee. The prescribed fees may be found in the Schedule to the Data Protection (Data Controller Registration) Regulations, 2024.

The fee payable by a data controller depends on whether the data controller is registering for the first time or renewing their registration and also the nature of the data controller's business operation. For the purposes of registration and payment of registration fees, data controllers have been categorised as follows:

• Company (as defined by the Companies Act of Jamaica)
• Public Authority (as defined by the Data Protection Act)
• Partnership (any person not being a company, public authority, sole trader or an individual, including but not limited to a body corporate established by an Act of Parliament; a Board of Trustees; a trade union under the Trade Union Act; a registered society under the Co-operative Societies Act or the Friendly Societies Act; an organization established by Charter; an association, club, or religious organization; a firm; any other group of individuals who collectively satisfy the definition of a data controller under the Data Protection Act.)
• Sole trader using a business name pursuant the Registration of Business Names Act.
• Individual operating in his own name.

ALL data controllers applying to be registered with the Information Commissioner must pay a fee. There are NO exceptions or exemptions.

Fees for first time registration as a data controller are as follows:

• Company or Public Authority - $25,000.00
• Partnership - $15,000.00
• Sole trader or individual - $7,500.00

Fees for renewing registration in each year after the year of first registration are as follows:

• Company or Public Authority - $15,000.00
• Partnership - $10,000.00
• Sole trader or individual - $5,000.00

Registrations fees are payable by way of direct deposit or funds transfer to the bank account of the Office of the Information Commissioner, the details for which are below:

When paying the applicable prescribed fee, data controllers must ensure their name is provided and properly reflected on the transaction receipt. The transaction receipt must be uploaded as a supporting document for the registration application.

Applications submitted without proof of payment of the applicable registration fee will not be processed.
