Registration as a data controller is subject to payment of a prescribed fee. The prescribed fees may be found in the Schedule to the Data Protection (Data Controller Registration) Regulations, 2024.
The fee payable by a data controller depends on whether the data controller is registering for the first time or renewing their registration and also the nature of the data controller's business operation. For the purposes of registration and payment of registration fees, data controllers have been categorised as follows:
ALL data controllers applying to be registered with the Information Commissioner must pay a fee. There are NO exceptions or exemptions.

When paying the applicable prescribed fee, data controllers must ensure their name is provided and properly reflected on the transaction receipt. The transaction receipt must be uploaded as a supporting document for the registration application.
Applications submitted without proof of payment of the applicable registration fee will not be processed.
